SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR Salem Historical Society is hosting a Hands On History event from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Dale Shaffer Library, 239 S. Lundy Ave., for students in grades four through six. Activities include designing a quilt pattern with a secret code like those used during the abolitionist period to help slaves on their quest to freedom, learning how to write with a quill pen and dressing in period costumes. Parental permission forms must be completed either online or at the door. The fee is $3. For information or to register, call 330-337-8514 or visit salemhistoricalsociety.org.
