Campbell man faces charges for animal cruelty
CAMPBELL — A man will be arraigned Friday on misdemeanor charges of cruelty to animals and failure to register a dog after police alleged he did not care for his sickly pit bull puppy.
Officers arrested Ryan Ware, 21, of Campbell Wednesday afternoon on a warrant.
Police responded to a Murray Avenue home July 20 after complaints that a neighbor had left a sickly dog outside on a porch.
Officers described the dog as a pit bull puppy and reported the dog was "very lethargic" and had trouble lifting its head or walking.
A police report said the dog was left outside for at least two hours without food or water.
Police took custody of the dog and transferred it to the Animal Charity Humane Society. The Humane Society later reported the dog was euthanized due to parvovirus.
While attempting to serve a search warrant at the Murray Avenue home on July 21, officers met Ware who told police his sister had given him the dog about six days prior, the report states.
Ware also said he attempted to feed the dog and give it antibiotics before placing it outside due to the dog's vomiting and diarrhea, the report states.
