Steelers’ Golson suffers Lisfranc injury

LATROBE, PA.

The Steelers secondary, beaten up and beaten often over the past several years, took another blow with the news that cornerback Senquez Golson may miss extended time with a severe foot injury.

Golson, the team’s second-round draft choice from Mississippi in 2015 who missed all of his rookie season after shoulder surgery, has a Lisfranc foot injury and could be out nearly four months, a source told the Post-Gazette. He was injured in practice at Saint Vincent College Monday, the fourth practice of training camp and the second in pads. Golson was carted off the field and threw his helmet in frustration after he was injured.

Mike Tomlin called it a mid-foot sprain right after practice Monday. A spokesman said the team would not provide updated injury news until after practice Wednesday.

The NFL Network initially reported the extent of the injury and said Golson could be out for 12 weeks.

Baylor football player arrested for stalking

WACO, Texas

Baylor University offensive lineman Rami Hammad has been accused of stalking an ex-girlfriend.

Hammad is free on bond after being arrested Monday on a felony stalking charge. Baylor athletics spokesman Nick Joos says the 21-year-old junior from Irving was suspended from all team activities.

The Waco Tribune-Herald reports that an arrest affidavit said Hammad waited for an ex-girlfriend before she entered class on July 7. After class, the ex-girlfriend saw Hammad waiting and told her professor she was afraid to leave alone. Hammad then allegedly followed the woman and professor to the professor’s office. They tried unsuccessfully to call the Baylor athletic department, then called police.

Players swap service for dropped charges

LUBBOCK, TEXAS

Prosecutors have dropped burglary charges against three former Texas Tech football players in exchange for the players’ agreeing to perform community service and meet other requirements.

Under terms of the agreement, a felony charge of burglary of a habitation against each of the ex-players was dismissed and they will enter a pre-trial diversion program that includes a number of provisions, including mandatory drug testing.

Dakota Devon Allen, Robert James Castaneda and Trace Keaton Ellison were kicked off the team in May for “failure to uphold student-athlete expectations.” A grand jury indicted them in June.

The arrest warrant alleged that they broke into a home last winter and stole a gun safe containing seven weapons.

NCAA accepts Missouri sanctions

COLUMBIA, Mo.

The NCAA says it has accepted Missouri’s self-imposed sanctions over infractions involving its men’s basketball program but has tacked on a year of probation though August of next year.

The NCAA infractions committee panel announced its findings Tuesday.

Missouri has admitted NCAA violations dating to 2011 and announced in January that it was vacating its 23 wins from 2013-14. The school also banned itself from the postseason last season and stripped itself of one scholarship last season and a second scholarship no later than 2017-18.

The school permanently banned one unidentified donor who the NCAA said provided impermissible benefits to three players and one recruit.
