Police: pregnant woman resists arrest
Staff report
YOUNGSTOWN
Reports said a pregnant woman taken into custody about 12:10 a.m. Tuesday told officers she hoped police killed her baby so she could sue the department.
Taleyla Gregory, 25, of Cambridge Avenue, was issued citations for resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and aggravated menacing after police were called to a home in the 700 block of Cambridge Avenue for a report of a fight between Gregory and several people in an adjoining home.
Reports said when police began talking to witnesses, Gregory began yelling from her home that she was only trying to buy marijuana from the neighbors she was fighting with.
Reports said Gregory kept yelling and she was told to be quiet and go inside, which made her yell only more. She told police she would not be quiet and they could arrest her.
Gregory went inside again and she eventually came outside and continued yelling. When police tried to take her into custody, reports said she resisted and had to be taken to the ground to be handcuffed. On the way to a cruiser, she told a neighbor she would kill her and also said she was four months pregnant and told police she hoped her baby was dead so she could sue them.
At ValleyCare Northside Medical Center where she was taken to be examined, reports said she called police several racist names and would not cooperate with staff. She also asked police to shoot her. Because there are no police there who could hold her when her treatment was finished, she was issued citations.
