BOARDMAN

A global Chinese-food chain is opening a restaurant in the township next month.

Panda Express is slated to open a location on South Avenue in late September, the company Tuesday confirmed to The Vindicator. The restaurant, located across from Primanti Bros., is now under construction.

Panda Express, based in California, was founded by Andrew and Peggy Cherng in 1983. It operates 1,900 locations around the world.

The restaurant is expanding across Ohio, the company said in a statement, noting its recent introduction into the Cleveland market and locations that soon will open in Mentor and Avon.

“We see tremendous potential in this region, so we are very excited for the opportunity to offer additional jobs to residents and become more ingrained in the community,” the company said in an emailed statement.

The restaurant chain defines itself as a fast-casual restaurant that “embraces a genuine family environment.”

Asked about menu features, a company representative highlighted the restaurant’s Orange Chicken dish, its “health-minded Wok Smart selections,” and its Shanghai Angus Steak and Honey Walnut Shrimp.

The company expects to hire 20 to 25 associates. To learn about job opportunities, visit www.pandacareers.com.
