Local resident wins national crown

Adlih Perez, 24, of Youngstown, has been crowned Today’s American Woman, Queen of Queens 2016. Perez competed in Today’s American Woman Pageant June 23 through 26 aboard the Carnival Victory on a cruise to Nassau, Bahamas.

As Queen of Queens, Perez will promote breast cancer awareness and education because her family was impacted by this illness when her aunt was diagnosed and treated for it. Perez also enjoys helping charities, reading to children and working with breast cancer education in the Latino community.

In addition to promoting a platform, title holders are required to complete monthly missions assigned by the pageant system.

Required areas of the competition include a private interview, glamorous wear, photogenic and evening gown. Optional areas of the competition and awards include national top model, talent, spirit of pageantry award, congeniality award, people’s choice award, national spokesmodel, community service award and Presidential Volunteer Service Award.

Today’s American Woman attracts an average of 65 contestants across the nation ranging in age from 10 to 81 with divisions for men, women, children and individuals with disabilities.

The pageant is accepting applications for 2017 state and country contestants. The 2017 International Pageant will take place in New Orleans from June 28 to July 2.
