Pikunas wins NOPGA Junior tournament

Boardman High School senior Jacinta Pikunas defeated Julia Goodson in a playoff last Thursday to win the NOPGA Junior tournament Kenny Novak Championship at Club Walden in Aurora. Pikunas and Goodson each shot 152 in the two-round event. In her second round, Pikunas had two birdies and three bogeys. Boardman’s Jenna Vivo finished fifth at 160. Vivo won last month’s Flynn Automotive Group Juniors Greatest Golfer of the Valley championship for 17U girls. Other locals competing were Vienna’s Emily Koehler of Mathews High School (173, tied for 10th), Youngstown’s Sydney Heinbaugh of Ursuline (177, tied for 12th) and Kaci Carpenter of Canfield (184, 14th).
