Circus acrobats tie the knot on tightrope during show
HOUSTON
Two circus acrobats tied the knot on a tightrope during a performance in Houston.
Mustafa Danguir and Anna Lebedeva got married 30 feet off the ground July 25 during a Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey show at NRG Stadium.
The groom, wearing a white tuxedo coat, arrived on a camel and climbed a side ladder to reach the tightrope.
The veiled bride rode a horse. She shed her high heels and adjusted her flowing gown to also climb a ladder to the wire.
The ringmaster presided as the pair met in the middle of the wire, then exchanged vows and rings.
The smiling newlyweds descended and waved to the cheering crowd as they walked away arm-in-arm.
It’s so hot in NY that manure is bursting into flames
THROOP, N.Y.
How hot is it in upstate New York? So hot that horse manure is bursting into flames.
The state Department of Environmental Conservation says it received multiple complaints July 5 about the smell and smoke emanating from a burning pile of horse manure at a property in the town of Throop, in the Finger Lakes region 20 miles west of Syracuse.
The responding officer learned that the owners of a horse stable had been storing the manure in large piles that frequently spontaneously combusted in the excessive heat and dry conditions.
DEC officials say a shift in the prevailing winds carried the odor of burning manure into the neighbors’ windows.
It took three local fire departments two hours to douse the burning manure.
Oregon State Fair to feature marijuana
PORTLAND, Ore.
A new crop will be featured at the Oregon State Fair this year: marijuana.
The Oregonian/Oregon Live reports that the fair awards prizes for the curviest vegetable or the most misshapen fruit. This year, marijuana plants will also be on display – and will be judged by a panel of growers before the fair.
The Oregon Cannabis Business Council is sponsoring the exhibit. Chairman Don Morse says nine plants will be displayed in a greenhouse and monitored by a security guard.
Only people age 21 and older will be allowed inside.
Fair spokesman Dan Cox says the exhibit is a nod to the newly legal status of cannabis. Morse says, however, that those hoping for a sample will be disappointed.
The fair runs Aug. 26 through Sept. 5.
