New academic chief wants to expand offerings
YOUNGSTOWN — The city school district’s new chief academic officer wants to expand electives and after-school activities.
Tyron Olverson, who began the job Monday, has been working in the schools as a contractor the last few weeks.
“I’m learning the different schools and the different programs to see what’s in one school and what more is needed in other schools,” he said this morning.
He’s looking at access and equality, he said.
Olverson, who was a finalist for the district chief executive officer, comes to Youngstown City Schools from Finneytown Schools near Cincinnati where he served as superintendent.
He has experience in urban, suburban and rural schools.
