“American Experience: THE BOYS OF ’36” (9 P.M., PBS): Inspired by Daniel James Brown’s best-seller, “American Experience: The Boys of ’36” is a documentary that recalls the story of nine scrappy, working-class young men from the University of Washington who captured the gold medal in rowing at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin.

Christian rockers to play Stambaugh

Christian artists Leeland and Meredith Andrews will come to Stambaugh Auditorium for a Nov. 13 concert.

Tickets range from $15 to $45 (plus service fee) and go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. at the Stambaugh box office, 1000 Fifth Ave.; online at stambaughauditorium.com, and by phone at 330-259-0555.

Leeland, a contemporary Christian rock band, released its fifth studio album, “Invisible,” in July. The band has four Grammy Award nominations and eight Dove Award nominations.

Andrews is a singer, songwriter and worship leader, and a two-time Dove Award winner. Her fifth album, “Deeper,” was released in February.

Downtown party with Hillbilly Way

Friday evening’s Downtown Shutdown outdoor party will feature Pittsburgh-based country band The Hillbilly Way. The event runs from 7 to 11 p.m. It will take place in the city parking lot on West Federal Street, next to the court of appeals building. Admission is $5, and there will be a bar and food trucks on the site.

‘Violins of Hope’ program set Aug. 11

James A. Grymes will give a presentation titled “Violins of Hope” at 7 p.m. Aug. 11 in the Villa Maria Community Center, Evergreen Road.

Grymes is a musicologist, author and speaker. He is a professor and chairman of the department of music at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

He will discuss his book, “Violins of Hope: Instruments of Hope and Liberation in Mankind’s Darkest Hour,” which tells of violins played by Jewish musicians during the Holocaust, and the Israeli violin maker dedicated to bringing these instruments back to life today.
