City store owner foils robbery attempt

YOUNGSTOWN — Police say the owner of a Mahoning Avenue gas station foiled a robbery attempt this afternoon.

Police were called to the station for gunfire about 2:15 p.m. Lt. Doug Bobovnyik said the store owner fired from his weapon at a man who tried to rob him.

The man drove away and the back window of his vehicle was shot out. Moments later police were called to an apartment in the 2600 block of Tyrell Avenue where a man called 911 and said he was grazed in the head by a bullet.

Police are investigating but believe the two incidents are linked, Bobovnyik said.
