Youngstown State University officials are expected to announce this morning a deal with a national company to improve the campus bookstore. President Jim Tressel announced several months ago that YSU was in negotiations with Barnes & Noble for that company to take over the bookstore. Today’s announcement is set for 11 a.m. at the bookstore, housed in Kilcawley Center.
Marine reunion

Marine Corps Maj. Shawn Meier, commanding officer of the Cleveland Recruiting Station, is guest speaker for the 37th annual Marine Corps Reunion on Aug. 13 at the Saxon Club, 710 S. Meridian Road.
While serving as commander of the 2nd Platoon, 2nd Marine Logistics Group at Camp Lejeune, N.C., in 2006, Meier was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The reunion, which is from 6 p.m. to midnight, includes a buffet, raffles, door prizes and a grand prize of an HD television. The cost is $25 per person for all Marines and guests. Simon set to speak

Scott Simon, Peabody and Emmy award-winning journalist and host of NPR’s “Weekend Edition Saturday,” will speak at 7 p.m. Sept. 13 in St. John’s Episcopal Church in Youngstown, across the street from the Youngstown State University campus.
The lecture is sponsored by the church and WYSU-FM 88.5. Tickets are $10 and will be available for sale at the church starting today. The church is at 323 Wick Ave.
Buddy Walk set

The Down Syndrome Association of the Valley 2016 Buddy Walk, one of more than 250 walk events in cities across the country and around the world this fall in and around October in recognition of Down Syndrome Awareness Month, will take place at 10 a.m. Aug. 13 at The Shops at Boardman Park, 721 Boardman Poland Road.
Anyone is welcome to attend the walk, developed by the National Down Syndrome Society to promote acceptance and inclusion of all people with Down syndrome. For information, visit www.dsav.org or contact Danielle Procopio at 330-774-3522.
Drums and dance
NEW CASTLE, PA.
Elliptica Belly Dance will host family drumming and dancing from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at Two Rivers Artisan Coffee Works, 11 S. Mill St.
The event provides drum and dance instruction for children and families, which will be followed by a free class from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday. Attendees to the free class will be introduced to the art of belly dance, which encourages whole body health, including a 45-minute class, and a short question-and-answer session with light refreshments.
No dance experience is necessary. Classes are for women of all ages, but attendees must allow for registration time.
