YSU police chief on paid leave; contract won't be renewed

YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown State University Police Chief John Beshara was informed Thursday that his contract, which runs through June 30 would not be renewed.

Ron Cole, YSU spokesman, confirmed that Beshara, chief since early 2012, was placed on paid administrative leave. Lt. Shawn Varso has been named acting chief.

No further information was available this morning about the leave or the non-renewal of Beshara’s contract.
