PUCO chief resigns effective May 20

COLUMBUS — The head of the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio will leave the post in about a month to take a position in the private sector.

Andre Porter, an Alliance native who was appointed to the position by Gov. John Kasich in early 2015, submitted his letter or resignation Friday. His final day at PUCO will be May 20.

“At this time, my wife and I have made the very difficult decision to pursue a new opportunity for our family back in the private sector,” Porter wrote in his letter to the governor. “With mixed emotions, I must inform you that I will resign as PUCO commissioner…. Thank you for your example of servant leadership. I wish you, your wonderful family and everyone in the administration the very best as you continue to serve.”

Porter did not offer details of his new position.
