A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Liberty and Girard:

HUBBARD

April 21

Weapon: A traffic stop in the 600 block of West Liberty Street led to a misdemeanor charge of improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle against 30-year-old Antony J. Faraj of East Liberty, Hubbard. Faraj had an unloaded .40-caliber pistol that was not in its holster, a report showed.

April 22

Citation: Officers issued a minor-misdemeanor citation to James P. Curran, 66, of Moore Street, Hubbard, after saying they had received numerous complaints about junk on his property. Two such vehicles, old tires, an empty child’s swimming pool and other junk items were found, in violation of a city ordinance, police said.

Criminal damaging: A truck in the 400 block of Simler Street was found with a dent in its front quarter panel.

Identity fraud: An Ava Court man reported receiving a debit card he never ordered before discovering someone without consent had opened an online account with his personal information.

April 23

Identity fraud: A Mapleridge Drive woman found out someone without authorization had tried to open a credit-card account with her name, though the application was denied.

Fraud: A Myron Street woman checking her account online noticed two unauthorized charges totaling $1,145, including one for a $698 iPhone.

April 24

Drugs: Donald W. Kowalczuk, 44, of state Route 7, Brookfield, faced charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia after authorities had pulled him over on South Main Street. Kowalczuk, who also was wanted on a probation-violation charge, had suspected dried marijuana buds in a jar, as well as a suspected marijuana pipe, a report said.

April 25

Theft: A man discovered several prescription medications missing from his Doris Drive residence.

Aggravated menacing: A Dresden Drive woman told police her 31-year-old former boyfriend had threatened to kill her if she failed to give him $50 for his rent. He also threatened on another occasion to kill the accuser and her family, she further alleged.

Theft: A woman reported a wheelbarrow, two shovels, a ladder and an edging trimmer missing from a home she owns in the 300 block of Westview Avenue.

April 26

Menacing: A West Liberty Street man alleged a neighbor with whom he’s had ongoing problems threatened to beat him up, apparently during a dispute about money owed.

Possible assault: A Saul Drive woman alleged a family member had struck her face and chest, then pulled her hair, though police said they believed the claim was unfounded.

LIBERTY

April 22

Domestic violence: Nathan J. Windham, 27, of Sharpsville, Pa., was charged with the crime after police responded to a possible situation at a James Lane residence, where his wife alleged that during a heated argument about their relationship, Windham had hit her at least seven times in the face and ribs. The accuser had minor injuries.

Theft: An Ohio license plate was removed from a trailer in the 400 block of Catherine Street.

Arrest: Authorities at the Mahoning County jail picked up 23-year-old Timothy Underwood of Oregon Avenue, Youngstown. He was wanted on a charge of failure to appear in court.

Domestic violence: A charge was pending against a 31-year-old Liberty man after a family member alleged he had become enraged and swept several items off a kitchen counter, one of which struck and bruised her left elbow.

Theft: Five batteries were stolen from a fenced-in area at A.P. O’Horo Co., 3130 Belmont Ave.

April 23

Theft: Someone entered several cars in the 3000 block of Northgate Avenue and took property that included money and clothing.

Arrest: Heather L. Maravola, 28, of Mahoning Avenue, Youngstown, was picked up at the Mahoning County jail on a township warrant.

Breaking and entering/vandalism: Someone entered a garage in the 1700 block of Park Avenue, damaged two vehicles and removed a $1,200 tire-changing device. Damage to the two cars came to $22,000.

April 24

Arrest: Vienna police relinquished custody of 28-year-old Savannah Johnson to Liberty authorities. Johnson, of Hazelwood Avenue Southeast, Warren, was wanted on a township warrant accusing her of failing to appear in court.

April 25

Arrest: Youngstown police in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue exchanged custody of a 17-year-old Youngstown girl with township authorities. The teen was wanted on a probation-violation charge and was to have been taken to the Trumbull County Juvenile Justice Center.

Robbery: A gunman in a ski mask with light, possibly gray hair robbed Dollar General, 4425 Logan Way, of an undisclosed sum of money before fleeing on foot to a black sport utility vehicle and driving south on Logan Way.

Arrest: Reginald D. White, 46, of Tyrell Street, Youngstown, was picked up at the Mahoning County jail on a Girard Municipal Court warrant.

April 26

Arrest: Police at the Mahoning County jail took custody of Jeffrey T. Shorter of West Avondale Avenue, Youngstown. Shorter, 47, was wanted on a township warrant.

Theft: John W. Griffiths, 34, of Overbrook Avenue, Liberty, faced a felony-theft charge after a neighbor noticed $300 missing from her home. Griffiths admitted having taken an envelope containing money from the homeowner’s purse, a report said.

Citation: While responding to a person in the 1100 block of Church Hill-Hubbard Road possibly in distress, police handed 46-year-old Richard M. Manley a minor-misdemeanor citation charging him with disorderly conduct. Manley, of West Chalmers Avenue, Youngstown, was intoxicated and caused a disturbance, awakening several neighbors, authorities said.

Arrest: Kinsman authorities handed James R. Ritter of State Line Road, Kinsman, to Liberty police. The 56-year-old Ritter was wanted on a Girard Municipal Court warrant.

April 27

Arrest: Suspicious activity at a Motor Inn Drive motel caught officers’ attention before they arrested Clarissa J. Friend, 22, and Katelyn B. Prendergast, 23, both of North Feederle Drive Southeast, Warren. Friend and Prendergast were wanted on probation-violation charges.

GIRARD

April 24

Theft: A Mohican Drive woman discovered a $150 bicycle had been stolen while she was at a nearby baseball field.

Domestic violence: A Girard boy, no age given, was charged after his father alleged the boy had jumped on and placed him in a chokehold during an argument related to yardwork.

April 25

Harassment: An Illinois Avenue man said he received two calls from someone claiming to represent the Internal Revenue Service who stated a lawsuit would be filed against him. The caller did not seek money, however, he reported.

Trespassing: Criminal-trespassing charges were pending against a man and a woman after authorities responded to an abandoned vehicle on railroad property off U.S. Route 422. The woman told officers she had gotten stuck, though she was on private property, a report stated.

April 26

Attempted theft: A woman reported seeing someone running from her Shannon Road home and discovering a swing had been taken apart, apparently when the person tried to steal it.
