The Boardman library hosted a kite-themed Night Owl story time on March 29 and a Go Fly a Kite event on March 30.
Boardman librarian, Karen Saunders, led an evening and a morning event both about kites. Saunders started out both events by reading stories about kites. After the stories were over, it was time for a craft for the children to make kites.
There were two kinds of kites the children made. One kite was a tiger the children could color and cut out and the other was a plain piece of paper they had to fold and could decorate however they wanted.
“I have all kinds of stencils for them to pick what they want to use. I have a cat stencil, bears, pets, animals, ballerinas,” said Saunders.
The children would pick from their favorite stencil to use to draw onto their kites. After the adults helped the children fold and cut their kites, it was time to use the stencils, crayons and stickers to decorate their kites. Crepe paper was also set out for the children to use to make tails for their kites.
When everyone finished making their kites, they went outside to try and fly them. The Boardman library recently opened their outside patio giving the children the perfect opportunity to be the first ones to use the patio. There wasn’t much wind, but the children enjoyed running with their kites trying to make them fly.
When the event was over, the children could take their kites home with them to play with more.
