2 hurt during fire

YOUNGSTOWN

Two people, one of them a city firefighter, were taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital after a fire about 1:50 a.m. Thursday at a 2224 Cordova Ave. home.

Reports said when firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming out of the home. The homeowner said he jumped out a second-story window and injured his leg. The firefighter was taken to the hospital for an injury to his eye, reports said.

The homeowner told firefighters he thought a space heater on the first floor caused the fire, but reports said the cause still is undetermined. Damage is listed at $10,000.

Probing retail theft

Township police are investigating a felony retail theft Wednesday reported at Victoria’s Secret, 7401 Market St.

A store employee reported to police a man and woman entered the store shortly before 5 p.m., concealed an estimated $1,700 worth of merchandise, then fled.

The employee estimated suspects got away with 10 pairs of leggings, 15 jackets and eight pairs of gym pants.

The incident was partially captured on video surveillance, according to a police report.

Closed for Easter

Warren city streets will be closed this weekend for Greek Orthodox Easter events.

High Street at Elm Road and Vine Avenue and Vine at High and Porter Street will be closed from 8 to 10 p.m. today for an Easter celebration.

High at Vine and Elm also also be closed from 11:30 p.m. Saturday to 12:15 a.m. Sunday for Easter celebration fireworks.

Spring band concert

BOARDMAN

The spring concert of the Boardman Bands will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Boardman Performing Arts Center, 7777 Glenwood Ave. The concert will feature the combined Concert/Symphonic Band and the Boardman High School Wind Ensemble. Senior soloist Michael Mitchum also will perform “Bride of the Waves” by Herbert L. Clarke.

The show marks the last for Steven Chambers, associate band director, who is retiring after 34 years as a music educator and 32 as part of Boardman’s band program.

Students are asked to donate $2 for admission. Adults are asked to donate $3; and senior citizens will be admitted for free.

Bike rentals offered

CANFIELD

Beginning Sunday, Trailside Bicycle Company will offer hourly and daily bike rentals from the Kirk Road Trail Head at 6685 Kirk Road. The rentals are being offered as part of a lease agreement between Mill Creek MetroParks and Trailside Bicycle Co.

The new rental location will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays with the last rental one hour before close. There will be adult and children’s size bikes, as well as adult tricycles, and costs begin at $9 per hour.
