Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

The YWCA will host the fourth annual Stand Against Racism from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday in the Ohio Room of Kilcawley Center at Youngstown State University.

The public and law-enforcement officials will gather on the YSU campus for a positive dialogue on working together to eliminate racism.

The event is being sponsored by several local organizations, according to a news release. The panel members will include Magistrate Anthony D’Apolito, police Chief Robin Lees and several other members of the community along with closing remarks by William Black. Carla Baldwin will serve as moderator.

The event also will include a screening of “Lucky Zip Codes” video by Amy Hunter, showing the lives of people determined by where they were born and what it takes to live in a world where one’s opportunities are determined by the geography of where they start in life.

Stand Against Racism is a signature campaign of YWCA U.S.A. meant to build community among those who work for racial justice and raise awareness about the negative impact of institutional and structural racism in communities.
