Youngstown firefighter injured in early morning North Side blaze

YOUNGSTOWN — Two people, one of them a city firefighter, were taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital after a fire about 1:50 a.m. today at a 2224 Cordova Ave. home.

Reports said when firefighters arrived they found smoke coming out of the North Side home. The homeowner said he jumped out a second-story window and injured his leg. The firefighter was taken to the hospital for an injury to his eye, reports said.

The homeowner told firefighters he thought a space heater on the first floor caused the fire, but reports said the cause is still undetermined. Damage is listed at $10,000.
