GIRLS LACROSSE

North Canton Hoover 10, Cardinal Mooney 3

YOUNGSTOWN

Hoover led 3-2 at halftime, but went on a 7-1 run in the second half to win. Lexy Herman, Taylor Harris and Kellie Walker scored for Mooney.

BASEBALL

Howland 11, Lakeview 0, 5 innings

CORTLAND

The Tigers scored all 11 runs in the second inning. Zach Campbell went 2 for 3 with four RBIs and a run scored. Michael Massucci, Frank Rappach and Hayden Parker each scored twice. Josh Shver pitched all five innings, allowing two hits, striking out eight Lakeview batters and walking two.

Cardinal Mooney 8, Western Reserve Academy 5

STRUTHERS

The Cardinals (11-5) jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first inning and held on from there. Further details were not reported.

Hubbard 7, East 1

HUBBARD

Caleb Johnson got the win striking out nine and walking one. Lukas Mosora drove in three for Hubbard (13-5, 4-4 All-American Conference White). Anthony Laird and Tim Herberger each had three hits and Brandon Rios had a triple. Malik Caige struck out 11 Eagles for East in the loss.

Canfield 18, Girard 5

CANFIELD

Jack Rafoth had three of the Cardinals’ 19 hits. One was a double and he drove in two runs. Mark Wittmann had three hits including two doubles and drove in three runs for Canfield (6-9). Joey Machuga had two hits and three RBIs while Ryan Head, Ethan Kalina and Luke Kelty all had two hits. For the Indians (9-10), Troy Trumbetta had two hits and two RBIs while Austin Claussell had a triple and two RBIs.

Jackson-Milton 9-10, Crestview 7-2

EAST FAIRFIELD

Noah Laster picked up the win in game one while Eric Ostrowski had two hits and a double for the Bluejays (13-4). Joel Fitzsimmons and Caleb Hill each had two hits for Crestview. In game two, Sebastian Lay pitched five innings, working around five walks to pick up the win. Laster had two hits, including a double and two RBIs. For Crestview, Ty Fitzsimmons picked up two hits.

Western Reserve 6, Springfield 1

NEW MIDDLETOWN

The Blue Devils (15-1, 7-1 Inter-Tri County League Blue) jumped out to four runs in the first and were aided throughout the day by five Springfield errors. Dom Velasquez (3-1) pitched six innings, striking out eight while walking two. He also went 3 for 4 from the plate, scoring one and driving in another. Ryan Demsky and Jake Clark both had two hits as well.

Mineral Ridge 12, Leetonia 2

LEETONIA

The Rams scored seven times in the fifth inning thanks to a two-run error, Mac White’s RBI single, Aaron Frantz’s two-run double, Devon Ritchie’s RBI double and Jake Rhodes’ RBI single. Winning pitcher Mike McLean struck out seven and allowed one earned run. For the Bears, Brady Shepard had a RBI double.

Lisbon 6, Beaver Local 5

LISBON

Nick Bowen’s three hits included two doubles and drove in three runs for the Blue Devils. Frankie Morrell had three hits and scored twice. Marcus Nenichka was the winning pitcher, striking out 10 and walking four. For the Beavers, Dean McPeek drove in two runs while Chase Wilcox had two hits including a double. Zach Boni doubled.

Grand Valley 5, Mathews 2

VIENNA

Jason Byler held the Mustangs (14-2, 9-2 Northeastern Athletic Conference) in check most of the day, striking out five and walking just one. Jake Reichek smashed a home run for the visitors and Rob Helmick drove in two runs. Anthony Oulton took the loss for Mathews and Jake Kocab had two RBIs.

SOFTBALL

Boardman 3, Austintown Fitch 1

BOARDMAN

Savanna Dempsey’s two hits included a triple and drove in two runs for the Spartans (8-8). Sydney Aey drove in Boardman’s other run. For the Falcons (6-10), Christina Tucker had three hits and Julia McMenamin drove in their run.

Canfield 11, Poland 1

AKRON

In a contest played at Firestone Stadium as part of the Rubber Series Rivalry, Canfield pounded out 12 hits in downing Poland. Maura Kennedy had four hits and two RBIs while Ally Sammarco and McKenna Carey each had two hits and one RBI. Bridget Durkin pitched all seven innings for the Cardinals, allowing just one earned run on eight hits and seven strikeouts. Kristyn Svetlak went 3 for 3 for Poland.

Lakeview 4, Howland 2

HOWLAND

Cait Kelm scattered eight hits to earn the win, striking out eight and walking one. McKenna Cannon had two hits and two RBIs while Avery Steiner had two hits and scored a run for the Bulldogs. Mackenzie Maze led the Tigers with three hits. Sara Price drove in both runs with two hits including a homer.

Hubbard 11, Niles 0, 5 innings

HUBBARD

Hubbard’s Addy Jarvis pitched perfectly through the five inning affair, striking out 12, allowing no hits and walking none. Jarvis threw only 64 pitches in the effort. At the plate, Emma Wukelich and Morgan Kist each had three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Annie Zagorec was 2 for 4 with a run scored and three RBIs.

Cardinal Mooney 8, Warren Harding 2

BOARDMAN

Winning pitcher Kayla Rutherford tossed a three-hitter, striking out 12 and walking one for the Cardinals (8-9). Bridget Sweeney, Jordan McClay, Conchetta Rinaldi and Rutherford each had two hits. Gia DiFabio, Sweeney and Rutherford doubled. Conchetta Rinaldi and Adrianna Popovich each had two RBIs. For the Raiders, Shaignn Powell homered.

Leetonia 12, Mineral Ridge 4

LEETONIA

Brea Schneider went 2 for 5 with four RBIs and a run scored to help lead the Bears. On the mound, Kalie Eastek struck out five Mineral Ridge hitters in picking up the win. For the Rams, Macey Garland 3 for 3, only missing a triple in her bid for a cycle. She had four RBIs.

Mathews 10, Grand Valley 0

VIENNA

Winning pitcher Bailey Hall scattered four hits, struck out three and walked none for the Mustangs (15-3, 12-2 NAC). At the plate, Hall had two hits and scored a run. Nicole Watts led the Mathews’ offense with three hits, three runs scored and two RBIs. Meredith Grimes hit two triples and scored twice. She also had a RBI. Noelle Miglozzi had three hits, two RBIs and one run scored. Maitlyn Simon drove in two runs. Grand Valley is 7-4.
