Gunfire at police
CAMPBELL
No one was injured when a man wearing a black hoodie fired five or six shots at Campbell police officers on Jackson Street from the area of Booker Avenue and Douglas Drive about 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Police had responded to a report that a 4-year-old was wandering around on Jackson and had cleared that call when the shooting incident occurred, said Lt. Kevin Sferra, one of the officers involved.
The man fled on foot and escaped after jumping a fence behind Jean Street in the Michael J. Kirwan Homes. Campbell police are continuing to investigate.
Assault charges
AUSTINTOWN
Charges against a man who authorities said assaulted a police officer were bound over to the Mahoning County grand jury Wednesday morning.
According to the report, when officers responded Saturday night to a fight call on Westminster Avenue, they had to use a stun weapon to detain Steven Devellin, 32, of Dunbar Avenue.
Devellin reportedly head-butted and kicked an officer, police said. Devellin faces charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.
Drug take-back day

The Goshen Police Department, 14003 W. South Range Road, will sponsor a drug take-back day from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday.
Residents of Goshen and Green townships, the village of Beloit and any surrounding areas are encouraged to bring in pills and medications.

Nurse aide open house

Mahoning County Career and Technical Center’s Adult Career Center will host a State Tested Nurse Aide Open House at 11 a.m. Monday a at the school on North Palmyra Road. Information will be provided about the STNA program beginning soon with Shepherd of the Valley. The Adult Career Center will provide the training, and Shepherd of the Valley will be interviewing and hiring.

Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley will honor Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mahoning Valley and Western Pennsylvania as the 2016 Champion for Our Valley’s Children at the sixth annual celebration dinner from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. May 10 at The Lake Club, 1140 Paulin Road, Poland.
Six additional individuals and organizations will receive the Children’s Advocate Award: Boys and Girls Club of Youngstown, M&M Golf Classic, Phil and Sandy Reda, Joe Staffeld, Warren Junior Women’s League and Youth Leadership Mahoning Valley.
