Boardman school, township officials discuss land swap

BOARDMAN — At a joint news conference this morning, township and school district officials announced plans for a property exchange that would allow construction of a new township fire station and school district bus garage.

Under the proposed agreement, the township would give the school district a parcel off Tod Avenue that houses a township cold-storage facility. The school district would modify that building to replace the bus garage it now uses on McClurg Road.

In exchange, the school district would give the township an empty parcel adjacent to Center Middle School to be used for a fire station township officials plan to build to replace the main fire station on U.S. Route 224.

"We are working together to save the taxpayers money and to improve services, so this is very exciting," township Administrator Jason Loree said.

Final details of the proposal are still being negotiated.
