Reports said several witnesses declined to come forward after a 55-year-old man said he was beaten with a chair and a cane about 5:50 p.m. Sunday at Kenyon Avenue and Jacobs Road on the East Side.
Reports said the victim told police he had been arguing with the suspect for several days for calling people names, and was drinking with him and others Sunday on the corner when he confronted the suspect about the name calling.
Reports said the victim was punched in the eye, then fell down and was struck three times with a chair and twice with a cane.
Witnesses told responding officers they did not want to become involved, reports said. The victim was told to contact the detective division.
