AUCTIONS

Salvation Army of Mahoning County Women’s Auxiliary will host its annual spring basket auction May 21 at Faith Community Covenant Church, 1919 E. Midlothian Blvd., Youngstown. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., and lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. Basket drawings will begin at 1. The $20 nonrefundable donation includes entry, 25 tickets for regular prizes and lunch. Tickets are available for cash only from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Salvation Army building, 1501 Glenwood Ave., Youngstown.

FUNDRAISERS

New Bethel Baptist Church Hospitality Ministry will host its eighth annual Spring Hat Extravaganza luncheon at noon May 7 at the Maronite Banquet Center, 1555 S. Meridian Road, Youngstown. Guest speaker will be Sister Lynn Phillips of Mount Calvary Pentecostal Church. The cost is $20. Guests are urged to wear their favorite hat. Men are welcome. There will be vendors and door prizes. Shrine of Our Lady, Comforter of the Afflicted, 517 S. Belle Vista Ave., will host a fundraiser raffle for a 65-inch Samsung television at 1 p.m. May 8. The winner need not be present. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5, and are available before and after Masses or at the church office from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Mail a check addressed to Franciscan Friars, and raffle tickets will be sent to you. Provide your name, address and phone number and send your tickets back to the church. St. Patrick Church, 1420 Oak Hill Ave., Youngstown, will host the final Sauce and Songs event of the season from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday in the social hall. It is a benefit for the Youngstown Connection’s trip to the Vatican in June. Proceeds will assist the group in raising funds for the opportunity to perform in Rome. The meal consists of spaghetti, salad, bread, dessert and beverage. The cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under. Carryouts are available, and containers will be provided. The concert will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the church featuring area cellist Father Vit Fiala and members of the Dana Chamber Orchestra. Freewill offerings will be welcome. RAFFLES

West Side Cats, 2217 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown, will host a Father’s Day raffle and drawing June 18. It will feature a 48-inch Insignia LED TV. Proceeds will be used for the spay/neuter program at West Side Cats. Tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5 and are available through any volunteer or at the shelter. For information call 330-792-4228.

Boardman United Methodist Church, 6809 Market St., will host a spring trash and treasure sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 4 and 5. Lunch, bake sale and beverages will be available. May 5 will be bargain-bag day.

Christ Community Church, 531 Neoka Drive, Campbell, (across from Four Season Flea Market) is hosting a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 6 and from 9 a.m. to noon May 7. Fill a bag for $2 on May 7. There will be something for everyone.

Girard Junior Women will host its annual trunk sale, rain or shine, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 21 at Girard Municipal Courthouse, 100 N. Market St. To reserve a spot for $15 each, call Laura at 330-545-5962. All proceeds are donated to the Girard community.

Good Hope Church, 98 Homestead Drive, Boardman, will host a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Proceeds will go to the church’s Cancer Relay for Life Team members, who will be serving food during the sale. Hot dogs, homemade soups, homemade sloppy joes and more will be for sale. Rummage sale items will include kitchen items, clothes, toys, books and miscellaneous. Donations for the sale may be dropped off at the church from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. Grace Lutheran Church, 162 S. Raccoon Road, will host a trash and treasure sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 7. Items available are household goods, tools, books, clothes, collectibles and more. Lunch, baked goods and refreshments will be sold. Proceeds will be used by the men’s group to fund improvements or maintenance projects at the church. Entrance to the sale area is in the rear of the church.

Helping Hands Closet at Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road, Canfield, has new and gently used clothes for the entire family. April specials include buy two adult items and get the third free (the lowest cost item). There also is plenty of children’s clothing. Hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Tuesday.

Heritage Presbyterian Church, 1951 Mathews Road, Poland, will have its annual rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 5 and from 9 a.m. to noon May 6, bargain-bag day. Clothing, household items, kitchen items and more will be available.

Hickory United Methodist Church, 240 N. Hermitage Road, Hermitage, Pa., will sponsor a good used clothing sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 6 and 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. May 7, which is dollar-bag day.

Howland Community Church, 198 Niles-Cortland Road SE, Warren, will host a garage, attic and basement sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 14. There also will be a bake sale. Admission is free.

Men’s Garden Club of Youngstown will host its annual plant sale from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 5 through 7 at the greenhouse at MASCO, 825 Bev Road, Youngstown. Sales of annual flowers, vegetables, herbs and hanging baskets benefit club scholarships and fund area civic projects.

Poland Lions will have a Treasures of the Trunk sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 11 in the stadium parking lot at Poland Seminary High School. There are 100 vendor spaces available; registration will be $10 for one space if postmarked by Sunday, and $15 per space after this date. Vendors should take their own table. No hot food or soft drink vendors or raffle drawings are permitted. There will be no refunds for registration, and the event will take place rain or shine. Trips Ahoy, a nonprofit organization that assists those who are developmentally disabled, will sponsor a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 28 and 29 and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 30 at It’s All Fine consignment and gift shop, 3581 Youngstown-Warren Road, Warren. Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road, Canfield, will host its annual garage, attic and basement sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 6 and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 7. On May 6 customers can fill a brown paper bag with clothes for $4; hanging clothes and accessories will be priced separately. On May 7 there will be half price deals and clothes will be $2 a bag.

SPECIAL EVENTS

St. Andrewes A.M.E. Church, 521 W. Earle Ave., Youngstown, will host “A Night of Dinner and Jazz” at 6 p.m. May 14 in the community hall at the church. Ellis Anthony & Company and Maestro Garland McCruter will perform. The menu comprises barbecue chicken and ribs, macaroni and cheese, southern greens, pasta salad, rolls, dessert and punch. First Congregational Church’s Wayne Missionary Society will sponsor a ladies brunch at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wayne Township Hall, at the corner of state Route 193 and U.S. Route 322. Doors will open at 10:30. A brunch will be served and there will be a comedy performance of “God’s Girls on Wheels.” A donation at the door and basket auction proceeds will benefit the USO and S.T.A.T.
