Chatham Baroque concert at St. John’s

YOUNGSTOWN

Chatham Baroque, a Pittsburgh-based trio, will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 323 Wick Ave. The concert, titled “Bach & Before,” is free and open to the public; however, a free-will offering will be taken.

There will be a pre-performance lecture at 7 p.m. by Dana School of Music faculty member Randall Goldberg titled “Instrumental Music Before Bach.”

According to Goldberg, Chatham Baroque does more than just reproduce the repertoire of 17th- and 18th-century musicians. “They’ve also resurrected the nuances and spontaneity of a lost chamber music tradition,” he said. “Attending their concerts is like being a fly on the wall at the jam sessions of ages past.”

The trio consists of Andrew Fouts, baroque violin; Patricia Halverson, viola da gamba; and Scott Pauley, theorbo. For information, call 330-941-2307. A complete calendar of events is available at web.ysu.edu/cac.
