Stand Against Racism slated Friday at YSU

Stand Against Racism, sponsored by the YWCA of Youngstown, will take place 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Ohio Room of Kilcawley Center at Youngstown State University.

The event, titled “United We Stand, Divided We Have Been: Building Community,” is free and open to the public.

The event will bring together members of law enforcement and the community for a dialogue on working together to eliminate racism.

Tuesday is primary election day in Mercer and Lawrence counties and throughout Pennsylvania. Residents will vote on candidates for president, Congress, state offices and others.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Boil advisory issued

WASHINGTONVILLE

A boil advisory has been issued for Washingtonville water customers beginning at 7 a.m. today. It will be in effect for two or three days because of construction on state Route 14.

The Ohio Department of Transportation is replacing culverts and lowering the main water line. During the boil alert, residents should boil their water for at least one minute before using it to kill harmful bacteria that may be in the water, reported 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.

Knolls Watch meeting

Lincoln Knolls Community Watch will meet from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the East Branch Library, 430 Early Road. Veterans from the Lincoln Knolls area are urged to attend the meeting or call 330-565-2906 from 5 to 7 p.m. to register for an upcoming event that will honor active, retired and deceased veterans from Lincoln Knolls.

Healthy Kids Day

The annual YMCA Healthy Kids Day will take place from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Davis YMCA, 45 McClurg Road.

The free event will feature a full schedule of outdoor and indoor activities for children and families. The goal is to promote health and fitness in a fun environment.

The day will include the grand opening of the new Davis Outdoor Recreation Area and dedication of the new access road Sweeney Way, sponsored by Sweeney Chevrolet Buick GMC of Boardman.

Mah Jong class

Youngstown

The Jewish Community Center of Youngstown, 505 Gypsy Lane, will offer a Mah Jong class from 10 to 11:30 a.m. May 3, 10, 17, and 24. Participants will learn the basics of the game over a four week period.

The cost is $45 for members; $55 for nonmembers. Each participant must have a current 2016 Mah Jong card that may be purchased at the JCC bursar’s office for $9.
