Tax lawyer annoyed by paying taxes denied law license return

HARRISBURG, Pa.

A suburban Philadelphia lawyer with a master’s degree in taxation who told Pennsylvania ethics investigators he found paying taxes to be “annoying” isn’t getting back his law license.

The state Supreme Court last month denied Sebastian Rainone’s request to reinstate his license, nearly a decade after he was disbarred for mishandling client funds and violating registration rules.

Rainone has served as campus dean and taught business and ethics classes at Strayer University in Willingboro, N.J.

He previously was a tenured faculty member at Villanova University in Pennsylvania.

The high court’s disciplinary board for lawyers says Rainone owed more than $100,000 in Philadelphia and U.S. taxes as of last year’s reinstatement hearing.

Messages left with Strayer and Rainone’s lawyer weren’t returned.

However, he went off to serve in World War II, and when he returned, he developed cancer and died. She still carries his picture.

Student government leaders from TERRA High School set up the dance for about 75 seniors at the Palace Nursing & Rehab.

Resident Sadie Gilbert, 86, says she was never invited to her high school prom but will now get the chance to attend.

Madrid mayor: Dog-poop culprits may have to clean streets

MADRID

Dog owners in Madrid beware: Pick up after your pooch or face working as a street cleaner.

Madrid Mayor Manuela Carmena is warning dog owners they’ll face stiff fines or possibly weekend work as street cleaners if they are caught in an upcoming dog-poop crackdown.

Carmena said last Monday that police will initially focus on two city districts where many dog owners are not cleaning up after their pets.

Dog owners could be fined up to $1,700 if caught.

Carmena also says she’ll propose to city councilors that offenders perform street-cleaning assignments Saturdays or Sundays as a possible substitute for the fines.
