BOARDMAN

Boardman Civic Association observed its 26th Scholarship Awards Dinner earlier this month at the Holiday Inn.

The event recognized high-school seniors from Boardman for their academic and civic achievement.

The six students who received $750 scholarships:

Adele Belgrad, Ursuline High School.

Nicholas Bucci, Cardinal Mooney High School.

Addison Cooke-Murphy, Boardman High School.

Emily Hoban, Valley Christian School.

Veronica Marcella, Boardman High School.

Natalie Pilolli, Boardman High School.

The awards are made possible through the association’s scholarship fund, which is supported by BCA members’ contributions and others from the community.

To be eligible, students must achieve a 3.5 GPA or above and be involved in community and civic activities.

State Sen. Joe Schiavoni of Boardman, D-33rd, was the guest speaker and offered his insights. He also encouraged students to maintain a strong work ethic and to be active in community interests.

Elaine Mancini, a community leader who founded the BCA scholarship award 26 years ago, received a Lifetime Achievement Award. Doug Sweeney, owner of Sweeney Auto Group, was recognized as Business Person of the Year for his lifelong commitment to the community.

The association’s next dinner will be in September.
