POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Liberty and Girard:

HUBBARD

April 15

Arrest: After receiving a call about a possible fire in the 200 block of Hager Street, authorities charged 20-year-old David G. Airgood of Hubbard with one misdemeanor count of inducing panic. At the scene, police found neither a fire nor anyone home, a report showed.

Theft: A West Liberty Street man alleged a neighbor had stolen six packs of cigarettes and four cans of chewing tobacco from him.

April 16

Assault: A Hillview Drive woman alleged a boy, 11, body-slammed her 11-year-old son to the ground during a competitive activity. Doctors at Akron Children’s Hospital in Boardman said the victim likely suffered a concussion, a police report stated.

April 19

Criminal damaging: The owner of a Jackson Street business alleged a former employee who had returned to complete a job application became angered, then flipped over several chairs and tables before being chased away.

Child endangerment: Police responded to a report of a 5-year-old boy alone in a parking lot in the 400 block of East Liberty Street before returning him home. Trumbull County Children Services Board was notified, a report said.

Summons: Officers issued a summons to 51-year-old Charles L. Storey of Clingan Avenue, Hubbard, after saying he had on his property a vehicle filled with junk, in violation of a city ordinance.

LIBERTY

April 12

Trespassing: Officers responded to a report of someone possibly entering vehicles at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, before citing 20-year-old David G. Airgood on a criminal-trespassing charge. Airgood, of Hager Street, Hubbard, was seen on surveillance footage entering one car, a report stated.

April 14

Aggravated menacing/criminal damaging: A Jefferson Court woman alleged a Girard man had tried to run her off the road near Interstate 80. The man alleged the woman had tossed an object at his car.

Arrest: Youngstown police handed to Liberty authorities 22-year-old Darnell A. Crayon of Fifth Avenue, Youngstown, who was wanted on two robbery charges from the township.

Identity theft: An Austintown woman learned that her stolen debit card had been used to make about $2,000 worth of unauthorized charges, including a $302 purchase at a township big-box store.

April 15

Weapon: While answering a call about an unresponsive person in a vehicle in the 4000 block of Belmont Avenue, police charged Michael J. Chizmar Jr. of Cranberry Lane, Warren, with improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon and operating a vehicle impaired. The 22-year-old Chizmar was passed out and when he came to, authorities saw that he had a handgun in his waistband, a report stated.

Theft/forgery: An official with the Veterans Outreach Center Inc., 7 Belgrade Ave., discovered three missing checks, two of which had been forged and cashed.

Identity theft: A Colonial Drive woman found out her credit card had been fraudulently used to make two transactions totaling $505 at a Fremont, Calif., Walmart store.

April 16

Arrest: William J. Courtney, 24, of Ohio Avenue, Girard, was charged with obstructing official business after police responded to a vehicle in a ditch off Trumbull Avenue. Courtney, who was in a nearby business, falsely claimed a friend had driven the car, a report said.

Drugs: Police pulled over a motorcycle on Belmont Avenue, where they charged 34-year-old Justin S. Malloy of Bryson Street, Youngstown, with drug abuse and obstructing official business. Malloy, who had a small amount of suspected marijuana, provided a phony name and date of birth, authorities alleged.

Theft: A Mill Run Drive man noticed $270 missing from his vehicle.

Drug paraphernalia: Suspicious activity in the 500 block of Gypsy Lane caught officers’ attention before they charged 59-year-old Anthony L. Wallace with possession of drug paraphernalia. Wallace, of Elm Street, Youngstown, had a suspected crack-cocaine pipe, police alleged.

April 17

Arrest: Police in the 3500 block of Belmont Avenue took custody of 30-year-old Tanya Black of Monticello Boulevard, Liberty. Black was wanted on charges of possession of drug-abuse instruments and driving under suspension.

Arrest: A vehicle check near Mansell Drive resulted in 32-year-old David R. King’s arrest, King, of Santa Monica Drive, Liberty, was wanted on a felony drug charge from Girard Municipal Court.

April 18

Robbery/drugs: While responding to a shoplifting situation at Walmart, authorities charged 26-year-old Ashley D. White of Dorothy, W.Va., with robbery, theft and identity fraud; 27-year-old John C. Powers of Beckley, W.Va., with theft, complicity to robbery and possession of criminal tools, drug paraphernalia and drug-abuse instruments; and 28-year-old Quintin M. Eva of Scott Depot, W.Va., with possession of drug-abuse instruments. After more than $800 in merchandise was stolen, White fought with security personnel and used a family member’s name during the arrest; in addition, a suspected heroin kit, a syringe and two tablespoons common in drug use were found, police said.

Theft: Jamey L. Stamper Jr., 30, of Dakota Avenue, and 45-year-old Michael C. Callihan of Cardigan Street, faced theft charges. The two Niles men were accused of stealing $196 worth of steaks from Giant Eagle, 4700 Belmont Ave.

Robbery: A man alleged a 26-year-old Niles man jumped into a vehicle he was driving in the 100 block of Church Hill-Hubbard Road. When the accuser tried to stop the man from leaving, he clipped the victim with the car’s passenger side, leaving minor injuries, a report said.

April 19

Drugs: Acting on a warrant, police, along with members of the Mahoning Valley Drug Task Force and U.S. Marshals Violent Crimes Task Force, arrested Rashaughn A. Norman, 21, of Green Acres Drive, Liberty, on charges of receiving stolen property, being a convicted felon with a firearm, possession of criminal tools and trafficking in cocaine. Found were a .357 Magnum revolver that had been reported stolen in East Palestine, a box containing 7.5 grams of suspected cocaine, several over-the-counter pills and a digital scale, authorities reported.

Identity fraud: A Monticello Boulevard man who attempted to file his 2015 income-tax return found out someone without authorization had established a $536 advanced line of credit using his name.

GIRARD

April 17

Theft: A man reported $500 missing from his West Wilson Avenue apartment.

Felonious assault: Jonathan Cunnings, 24, of Lucius Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with felonious assault after his girlfriend, of Stull Avenue, alleged that during an argument about text messages, Cunnings had punched her mouth, causing the accuser to fall and damage some of her teeth.

April 18

Attempted fraud: Two workers with a South State Street gas station reported a Far Rockaway, N.Y., man tried on two occasions to use what they believed were fictitious credit cards to buy cigarettes.

Domestic violence: Christopher Phillips Sr., 36, of Gary Avenue, Girard, was charged with the crime after his son alleged Phillips tossed a mug, striking his head, when he became angered because the accuser had laughed at him.

April 19

Indecency: A woman told police a man had exposed himself to her while she was near Abby Street.
