Former Lowellville assistant football coach John Falconi is taking his talents across the border to Pennsylvania as the new head coach of the Lakeview High School football team.

Falconi, 29, was with Lowellville the past five seasons and said he’s excited about the opportunity to take over the Stoneboro team that has won 26 games over the past three seasons.

“I’m pretty ecstatic about it,” Falconi said. “Being from Mercer County I was always aware of Lakeview. People always spoke very highly about the school and I knew they had a very rich tradition in running backs coming out as far back as I can remember.

“I knew there was talent and that it was a good program to come into.”

The school board offered Falconi the position the morning after he interviewed and now with five years of assistant coaching under his belt, he’s getting his first crack as a head football coach.

Falconi was last year’s head track coach at Lowellville, but Falconi is well aware how different being a head coach in track and football are.

“It’ll be a little different moving up from being an assistant coach,” Falconi said. “Football is also a little more intense than track. As a track coach you pretty much hope the kids do their best. In football it’s more about molding that team into what you want them to be while making sure the kids are good students and good people off the field as well. I’m looking forward to those challenges.”

The Sailors went to the Class A state quarterfinals in 2013 after winning the Distict 10 championship.
