ASSOCIATIONS

Mahoning Retired Teachers Association will meet May 11 at Antone’s Banquet Center, 8578 Market St., Boardman. A social hour will begin at 11 a.m., lunch will served at 11:45 with the meeting to follow. Susan Harris will preside. The program will include the annual In-Memoriam by Sally Winsen, In-Remembrance by Martha Lopez, and recognition of all 90-year and older members. ORTA Executive Director John Cavanaugh will be the speaker. This month’s community service will be donations to the Rape Crisis Center. Items needed are underwear, sweatshirts and sweatpants. ALLIANCES

Ohio Cultural Alliance will meet in the great hall at St. Nicholas Church, 764 Fifth St., Struthers, for a dinner meeting at 6 p.m. May 2, when the Rev. John Mulqueen will address the theme “Faith in the Valley: Catholicism.” Mulqueen is a retired Roman Catholic priest ordained in 1962. He has served as a high-school religion teacher, pastor and missionary. Cultural enrichment will be provided by the Rev. Vit Fiala, cellist. Take personal hygiene items and paper products to be donated to the Beatitude House. Membership is open at $25 per person, and meetings cost $15 for paid members and $20 for nonmembers. Local Retired Registered Nurses will meet at 1 p.m.Tuesday at Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road, Canfield. Trumbull County Travel Club will have a meeting at 12:30 p.m. May 12 at the Howland S.C.O.P.E. Senior Center, 8273 High St., Warren. The community is invited. Wendt Tours will present a two-day trip to Niagara Falls, U.S. side, and the Safari Adventure planned for Aug. 9 and 10. No passports are needed. A slide show will be given on the Bethlehem, Pa., three-day mini-vacation set for Dec. 1 to 3, which includes a one day trip to New York City to see the Radio City Rockettes. The hotel stay is at the Sands Casino with a live Tony Orlando show included. Itineraries for all day outings will be given to all attendees. Time also will be allotted to go over the 2017 vacations. The first trip in 2017 will be to Savannah, Charleston and Jeckle Island.

Canfield Republican Women’s Club dinner meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. May 4 at A La Cart Catering in Canfield. Sgt. Glen Riddle of the U.S. Marshals fugitive squad and detective with Boardman Police Department and Wes Skeels, chief probation office of the Mahoning County Juvenile Court, will be speaking about juvenile and adult crime in the area. SUPPORT GROUPS

Alzheimer Network Family Support Groups will meet at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Easter Seals Adult Day Center, 721 Boardman-Poland Road, Boardman, and at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Emmanuel Lutheran Education Building, 251 S. NAMI Mahoning Valley will offer support groups for those who deal with mental illness. Family support groups, providing information for family members and friends of individuals with mental illness, will be offered the first Thursday of each month in Trumbull County at 11 a.m. at the Girard Library, 105 E. Prospect St., and on the second Tuesday of each month in Mahoning County at 7 p.m. at the D & E Counseling Center, 142 Javit Court, Austintown. The Connection support group aims to connect individuals who live with mental illness in a structured discussion format. It is limited to adults living with a mental health diagnosis in order to promote self-disclosure in a safe, confidential environment. It is free and open to anyone with a mental health diagnosis. They meet for a day session at 1:30 p.m. each Thursday at the community center, 1344 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, and in the evenings at 6 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at the D & E Center. R-Weigh Weight Support Groups meet on Mondays at First Friends Church, 1028 Jennings Ave., Salem. Afternoon weigh-in is from 1 to 1:30 p.m., and the meeting will follow at 1:45. The club is an all-volunteer, nonprofit group of women helping women to lose weight. All money paid returns to the members in incentives to lose weight.
