Judge Rusu announces application process for MetroParks board

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

Those who wish to apply for the vacant seat on the Mill Creek MetroParks Board of Park Commissioners must file an application at the Mahoning County Probate Court by 4:30 p.m. May 6.

Applications are available at the courthouse, 120 Market St., or under the “Information Links” tab at www.probate.mahoningcountyoh.gov.

A 10-person selection committee empaneled by Probate Judge Robert N. Rusu Jr., the appointing authority for the park district board, will review applications and narrow the field to five to seven candidates. The judge plans to make a final selection by June 13.

The candidate who is selected will fill the seat left vacant by the resignation of Mike Senchak. The three-year term expires in December 2018.

The board member must attend monthly board meetings, special meetings, workshops and board functions as necessary, according to a release from the judge.

They must also review monthly departmental and financial reports, create and review board policies, familiarize themselves with Ohio Sunshine Laws regarding public meetings and state law governing park districts.

Judge Rusu said an effective board member “will also be a frequent park user, attend park events and become acquainted with the history of the Mill Creek Metro park.”

Candidates must be Mahoning County residents and be able to pass a criminal background check. Board members are unpaid volunteers.
