Lordstown plant to shut down for two weeks

LORDSTOWN — Lordstown General Motors Assembly Plant will shut down the week of April 25 and the week of May 2 because of the impact of the recent Japan earthquakes on suppliers.

Sources told The Vindicator the shut down is due to supply chain issues related to the April 14-16 earthquakes in Japan.

About 4,500 workers are employed at the local plant where the Chevrolet Cruze is built. Workers have been building the recently released next-generation Cruze, which just started to hit dealer lots.

The shut down will impact Lordstown and three other GM North America plants: Fairfax, Kan.; Spring Hill, Tenn.; and Oshawa, Ontario.
