UPDATE | One dead, one hospitalized in Boardman apartment fire

Officials have identified the victims of a Glenwood Avenue apartment fire as married couple Curtis and Elizabeth Cochrane.

Curtis, 64, died after fire and emergency medical service crews responded about 11:45 p.m. Tuesday to the blaze that broke out in the Cochrane’s apartment.

Elizabeth was flown to a burn unit in Akron, fire officials reported Wednesday afternoon. She is now listed as in critical but stable condition, and fire investigators hope to speak with her in the next few days.

Fire officials say the fire started in the kitchen of the apartment; the cause is under investigation. Dozens of residents of the four-story, 50-unit-plus building had to be evacuated.
