BOARDMAN
A Poland man faces numerous charges stemming from his weekend arrest for operating a vehicle while impaired.
According to a police report, officers responded to a Wendy’s restaurant on South Avenue at midnight Saturday about an intoxicated man driving a green station wagon in the drive-through line.
Police approached the car of Chris Ciprich, 28, of Springfield Road, who they said smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech.
When ordered to leave the vehicle and surrender his identification, Ciprich refused on several occasions until officers had to wrestle him to the ground in an attempt to handcuff him.
After several warnings, police shot him with a stun weapon twice to subdue him.
After finally retrieving Ciprich’s identification, police discovered he was under a license suspension through South Carolina and had a warrant for his arrest on a burglary charge out of Hermitage, Pa., with an extradition notice.
When taken to the police department, Ciprich proceeded to act belligerent and aggressive, shouting violent threats and lunging at officers, according to the report.
He refused both breath and urine tests. He began to calm down and apologize after speaking to his attorney.
When police, however, told him he couldn’t post bond because of the felony warrant, he again became verbally and physically aggressive.
After booking, police took him to the Mahoning County jail, and officers said he continued to swear and yell threats.
Ciprich is charged with obstructing official business, causing injury to an officer, resisting arrest, operating a vehicle while impaired, driving under suspension and intimidation of a public servant.
A hold also was placed on him for Hermitage authorities.
His bond is set at $14,950 bond pending his court date this morning in Mahoning County Area Court.
Police also cited Chris Varga, 49, of Forest Ridge Drive for operating a vehicle while impaired and driving with a suspended license Friday night.
Police responded to an accident at Foxridge and Forest Ridge drives. There they found Varga.
Police noticed Varga had alcohol on his breath when they ordered him out of the car.
He failed a field-sobriety test and refused to take a breath test.
He also has a hearing today in Mahoning County Area Court.
