AUCTIONS

Austintown Growth Foundation will sponsor its second annual quarter auction Thursday at the Saxon Club, 710 S. Meridian Road, Youngstown. Doors will open at 5 p.m., and the auction will begin at 6. Tickets are $5. The event will include a 50-50 raffle. For information call Judy at 330-799-3213.

Tri-Gold Primetime Chapter of ABWA will have its annual basket auction Saturday at St. Nicholas Great Hall, 764 Fifth St., Struthers. Doors open at 12:30 p.m.; the auction starts at 3. Admission is $5 and includes a full sheet of raffle tickets and a door prize ticket. Light refreshments will be available. There will be a 50-50 and other special raffles. The first door prize is $100 and the second, $50. The auction is one of three fundraising events the chapter sponsors for its education fund to provide scholarships to area students. FLEA MARKETS

Saxon Club, 710 S. Meridian Road, Youngstown, will open its flea market May 3, and it will continue each Tuesday through October, weather permitting. Hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Vendors are permitted to set up early. Spaces can be rented for $5. Typical items available include household goods, books, tools and collectibles. Refreshments are available. On May 3, set up for vendors will be free. Proceeds from the market will be used to the maintain the club’s parking lot.

NIGHTS AT THE RACES

K. of C. Assembly 2596 of St. Charles Church, 7345 Westview Ave., Boardman, will host its eighth annual night at the races at 7 p.m. Saturday. Doors open at 6 with free admission. Complimentary refreshments including hot dogs, sloppy joes, beverages and snacks will be available. Must be 21 or older to enter. There will be a 50-50 and gift basket raffles.

SALES

Boardman United Methodist Church, 6809 Market St., will host a spring trash and treasure sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 4 and 5. Lunch, bake sale and beverages will be available. May 5 will be bargain-bag day.

Christ Community Church, 531 Neoka Drive, Campbell, (across from Four Season Flea Market) is hosting a rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 6 and from 9 a.m. to noon May 7. Fill a bag for $2 on May 7.

First United Methodist Church, 237 W. Silver St., Sharon, Pa., will host a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 6 and 9 a.m. to noon May 7. There will be an all-day bake sale on May 6, and May 7 is $1 a bag day.

Girard Junior Women will host its annual trunk sale, rain or shine, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 21 at Girard Municipal Courthouse, 100 N. Market St. To reserve a spot for $15 each, call Laura at 330-545-5962. All proceeds are donated to the Girard community.

Helping Hands Closet at Western Reserve United Methodist Church, 4580 Canfield Road, Canfield, has new and gently used clothes for the entire family. April specials include buy two adult items and get the third free (the lowest cost item). There also is plenty of children’s clothing. Hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Tuesday.

Hickory United Methodist Church, 240 N. Hermitage Road, Hermitage, Pa., will sponsor a good used clothing sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 6 and 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. May 7, which is dollar bag day.

Howland Community Church, 198 Niles-Cortland Road SE, Warren, will host a garage, attic and basement sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 14. There also will be a bake sale. Admission is free.

Men’s Garden Club of Youngstown will host its annual plant sale from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 5 through 7 at the greenhouse at MASCO, 825 Bev Road, Youngstown. Sales of annual flowers, vegetables, herbs and hanging baskets benefit club scholarships and fund area civic projects.

Poland Lions will have a Treasures of the Trunk Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 11 in the stadium parking lot at Poland Seminary High School, 3199 Dobbins Road. Vendors are being accepted for 100 available spaces; registration will be $10 for one parking space if postmarked by May 1, or $15 per space after that date. Vendors should take their own table. It is asked that there be no hot food or soft drink vendors or raffle drawings. There will be no refunds for registration, and the event will take place rain or shine. Poland United Methodist Women will host a Books Bags Bling sale from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the church, 1940 Boardman-Poland Road. Books for all ages, tote, hand and clutch bags and jewelry will be for sale, as well as games, puzzles, CDs and DVDs. Proceeds will benefit missions.

SPECIAL EVENTS

First Congregational Church Wayne Missionary Society will sponsor a ladies brunch at 11 a.m. April 30 at Wayne Township Hall, at the corner of state Route 193 and U.S. Route 322. Doors will open at 10:30. A brunch will be served, and there will be a comedy performance of “God’s Girls on Wheels.” A donation at the door and basket auction proceeds will benefit the USO and STAT. New Bethel Baptist Church Hospitality Ministry will host its eighth annual Spring Hat Extravaganza luncheon at noon May 7 at Maronite Banquet Center, 1555 S. Meridian Road, Youngstown. Guest speaker will be Sister Lynn Phillips of Mount Calvary Pentecostal Church. Cost is $20. Guests are urged to wear their favorite hat. Men are welcome. There will be vendors and door prizes. St. Andrewes AME Church, 521 W. Earle Ave., Youngstown, will host “A Night of Dinner and Jazz” at 6 p.m. May 14 in the community hall at the church. Ellis Anthony & Company and Maestro Garland McCruter will perform. Menu will include barbecue chicken and ribs, macaroni and cheese, southern greens, pasta salad, rolls, dessert and punch. TRIPS

Jesus the Key Ministries and Men of Faith, the producers of The Rally in the Valley, will host a bus trip to Lancaster, Pa, to see the show “Samson” at the Sight and Sound Theater as well as Crooners at the American Music Theater on July 12 and 13. On Dec. 6 and 7 a trip will include “Samson,” a Christmas concert at AMT and a meal at the dinner theater at the Dutch Apple. Each trip also will provide time for sightseeing and shopping. Our Lady of Fatima — St. Ann Church, 601 Roemer Blvd., Farrell, Pa., will sponsor bus trips to raise funds for repairs of its church organ. A trip to Seneca Allegany Casino in Salamanca, N.Y., is set for June 14 and 15. Lodging in the casino’s hotel is $155 per person for double occupancy with $70 in bonus rebates. A bus trip to Soaring Eagle Casino Resort in Mount Pleasant, Mich., will be Sept. 13 to 15. Hotel rooms will be $304 per person for double occupancy with a $100 bonus. Second Baptist Church, 820 E. Patterson St., Alliance, will host a bus trip from Aug. 2 to 4. Cost will be $330 per person and will include a motorcoach, lodging for two nights, four meals, a showing of “Samson” at the Sight & Sound Millennium Theatre, “Crooners” show at the American Music Theatre, Kitchen Kettle Village, Rockvale Square Outlets and a guided tour of Lancaster.
