Entries sought for Memorial Day parade

The Kiwanis Club of Boardman will host its 112th annual Memorial Day parade May 30. To participate in the parade, contact Stephanie Landers at 330-565-2543, or email boardmanparade@yahoo.com.

Groups participating will assemble at Boardman Center Middle School, 7410 Market St., at 9:30 a.m.

Plaques available for Garden District homes

WARREN

Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership is seeking homeowners living in Warren’s Garden District just north of downtown who are interested in obtaining a free plaque commemorating their property’s history.

The nonprofit philanthrophic group Trumbull 100 will pay for up to 30 homes to receive research from the Trumbull County Historical Society concerning past owners and the architectural style of home.

The plaques will acknowledge properties as historically significant. The Garden District is the oldest section of town. Its boundaries are Atlantic Street, Elm Road, High Street and North Park Avenue.

YSU events to focus on rape on campuses

Youngstown

“The Hunting Ground,” an award-winning documentary about sexual assault on college campuses and what its creators say is a failure of college administrations to deal with it adequately, will be screened at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Youngstown State University.

The free screening, open to the public, is in Room 358 of DeBartolo Hall.

The university also will host a panel discussion at 11 a.m. Friday in Room 2212 of Williamson Hall. The discussion will feature Sofie Karasek of End Rape on Campus, an advocacy group for survivors of sexual assault on campus. Lynn Bilal of the End Rape on Campus Ohio Alliance to End Sexual Violence also will participate.

At noon Friday, Karasek will present a lecture titled “Title IX and Campus Sexual Violence” in Room 2212 of WIlliamson Hall.

The events are sponsored by YSU Women’s and Gender Studies.

High-speed chase

NORTH JACKSON

The Ohio State Highway Patrol arrested a suspect after a high-speed chase Sunday afternoon that began in Portage County and ended in Mahoning County where the suspect crashed his car into a ditch attempting to get on Interstate 80 in North Jackson.

According to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, the pursuit began about 1:30 p.m. when the suspect was seen going more than 90 mph on Interstate 76 in Portage County. After crashing his car, the suspect led police on a foot chase near the turnpike before he was apprehended.

The driver, Samogian Jackson, 20, of Cleveland, was injured when he crashed his vehicle. He was treated at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren and is in Portage County jail, according to the OSHP Ravenna Post.

Youngstown State University’s Ward Beecher Planetarium will present “Cosmic Origins Spectrograph” at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The planetarium also will show the “Great Space Treasure Hunt” at 2 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free.
