The Buckeye Horse Park Association will host a Kentucky Derby Day party beginning at 4:30 p.m. May 7 at Tippecanoe Country Club, 5870 Tippecanoe Road.

Tickets are $50 each and include Southern-style cuisine and mint juleps. Participants will have an opportunity to roll the dice to spell DERBY for a chance at $5,000 sponsored by Greenwood Chevrolet.

Honorary co-chairmen of the event are Dr. Jennifer and Terry Baird and Bruce Zoldan.

There also will be memorabilia from Animal Kingdom, the 2011 Kentucky Derby winner.

Auction items will include jewelry, gift baskets, golf and spa packages, local restaurant gift certificates and a chance for two tickets to the Belmont Stakes to take place June 9 to 11 at Belmont Park in Elmont, N.Y.

Buckeye Horse Park is an equine facility located at 9260 Akron-Canfield Road in Ellsworth. Since 1994, volunteers have raised funds and built show grounds to accommodate a wide range of equine activities.

Many youth and adult groups sponsor events at the park, including shows, educational clinics, endurance rides and trail riding.

Proceeds from memberships, grants, rental fees, donations and shows have been used to construct the current facilities and to purchase maintenance equipment.

The nonprofit park association gives back to the community by donating to local charities and providing a venue for youths to learn riding.

The Derby Day committee includes Liz McGarry, Kim Poma, Sissy Romeo, Teri Simon, Nancy Sullivan and Louann Sutton-Kutlick.

For information about the park, party reservations or to purchase 50-50 raffle tickets, call Sally Kish, president, at 330-549-2897.
