New business starts up in Boardman

BOARDMAN

Sprocket Solutions, a newly launched, Youngstown-area technology startup, announced its partnership with Seattle, Wash.-based Acumatica Inc. on Friday. Sprocket Solutions is led by Founder Kevin Miller, who is leading his new venture with his sights set on becoming the next Youngstown success story.

The startup sells, implements and customizes Enterprise Resource Planning software to small and medium-size companies in several industries including professional services, manufacturing, distribution, software and technology, and retail/e-commerce. ERP software allows businesses to streamline their processes to become more efficient.

Summer youth program planned

WARREN

The Trumbull County Department of Job and Family Services will have a summer youth program for county residents age 15 to 24 from June 13 to Aug. 5.

It is for economically disadvantaged people and pays $8.50 per hour, 30 hours per week. Applicants must apply in person and be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian if under age 18.

To be eligible if not attending high school, applicants must be a custodial or non-custodial parent.

Documentation required: Social Security card, driver’s license or state identification, birth certificate, proof of residence, proof of total gross household income for the past 30 days and proof of school attendance.

Candidates can start applying from 9 a.m. until noon April 30 at Job and Family Services on North Park Avenue downtown or any of the seven dates in May. For information, call 330-675-2074.

Port Authority provides public financing insight

VIENNA

The Western Reserve Port Authority’s Development and Finance Division recently sponsored a training seminar, Fostering Community and Economic Development: Grants and Public Financing, at Squaw Creek Country Club in Vienna. More than 140 political leaders, public service workers and non-profit managers attended and gained comprehensive understanding of local financing, state and federal funding and how to become more competitive in winning grants.

Business filings increase in March

COLUMBUS

Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted on Thursday announced 10,478 new entities filed to do business in Ohio during March. The previous record was achieved in March 2015 when 10,102 entities were formed.

Business filings in Ohio continue to increase, and 2016 is on track to be another record-setting year. Nearly 3,000 more entities have filed to do business in Ohio in 2016 than at the same point in 2015. Between 2010 and 2015, Ohio saw a 21.8 percent increase in new business filings.

Ohio Business Central was launched in 2013 to allow new businesses to be formed online. Today, all Ohio-based businesses can be formed online, and more than half of all businesses are started via the secretary of state’s website.
