City is topic on PBS show

Youngstown’s efforts to remake itself is the topic of a 10-minute segment that will air on PBS NewsHour today at 6:30 p.m. on Western Reserve PBS’ Fusion channel (45.2).

The segment, produced by WNET-PBS of New York, portrays Youngstown as an archetypal Rust Belt city, and focuses on its decade-long effort to shrink its infrastructure in order to become more sustainable. It analyzes how well the plan – designed to rebuild Youngstown’s neighborhoods and its economy – has fared.

The segment includes interviews with Ian Beniston and Tiffany Sokol of the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp.; urban planner Hunter Morrison; T. Sharon Woodberry, director of economic development and community planning for the city; and three city residents (Nancy Martin, Robert Morris and Dawn Griffin).
