Warner Bros. film, exhibit at museum

YOUNGSTOWN

In celebration of the Mahoning Valley Historical Society’s 140th anniversary, the Arms Family Museum, 648 Wick Ave., will have an open house Saturday from noon to 4 p.m., with buy-one, get-one admission.

At 1 p.m., the documentary film “The Brothers Warner,” which covers the Youngstown family from its beginnings through its rise in Hollywood, will be screened in the Carriage House Meeting Room.

A new exhibit at the Arms museum, “The Warner Brothers: From Hometown to Hollywood,” also is open. It features images and correspondence that document the Warner family’s Youngstown beginnings through its rise in Hollywood. There also is a painting of the lobby of Youngstown’s Warner Theater, circa 1940, by local resident James M. Holland.

Also in the exhibit is a collection of letters received by Myron Penner, a Warner family friend who owned a furniture store in Struthers. Jack Warner and Bill Schaefer, Jack’s executive secretary, corresponded with Penner on many subjects from the 1950s to 1970s, including politics, friends, films and news of Youngstown.

Lady A at Derby

LOUISVILLE, Ky.

Churchill Downs says the country trio Lady Antebellum will sing the national anthem at the 142nd Kentucky Derby.

The performance will be broadcast live from the Kentucky Derby Winner’s Circle at the Louisville, Ky., racetrack right before the historic race May 7. The performance will kick off a summer tour for the Grammy Award-winning group. Lady Antebellum will be the eighth performer to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” before the race since the track started the tradition in 2009.
