Students in fifth and sixth grades at Poland McKinley Elementary School participated in the annual school dance on March 18.

The theme of this year’s dance was “glow party.” The students received light up glasses, glow sticks, finger lights and other light up and glowing objects to decorate themselves with. Students dressed in neon and bright colors to show off in the gymnasium with several other bright lights flashing.

The dance is a long-standing tradition that McKinley puts on every year. The PTO sponsors the event and organizes everything for the students to have a good time for free.

“We have so many kids, I’m happy pretty much everyone came,” said Shelly DiFabro, the PTO chair for the dance.

Businesses around the community help the PTO and donate products from their business for the dance, such as pizza, chips and salsa, candy and Girl Scout cookies. Bob Hlinka, from Music Man DJ Services, provided music for the dance.

A photobooth was available with multiple props for the children to use to get a picture. Several volunteers, from the PTO and parents of students, helped work the dance by serving food and taking pictures for the photobooth.

The dance is something the students enjoy coming to. They get to spend time with their classmates outside of school hours dancing and having fun.
