Lecture set Saturday on Andy Warhol’s Carpatho-Rusyn’s roots


YOUNGSTOWN — Elaine Rusinko, a professor of Russian at University of Maryland-Baltimore, will deliver a free lecture on artist Andy Warhol at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Butler Institute of American Art, 524 Wick Ave.

Titled “We Are All Warhol’s Children: Andy and the Rusyns.” the lecture will explore the artist’s Carpatho-Rusyn ethnicity and explores its possible influence on his persona and his art.

It will also analyze the Rusyns’ reception of Warhol, with a focus on the history of the Warhol Museum of Modern Art in Medzilaborci, Slovakia.

The late Warhol was a Pittsburgh native whose grandparents were immigrants and Carpatho-Rusyns.
