Hot patch applied to some of Campbell’s most pockmarked roads

CAMPBELL
Politicians rolled up their sleeves and joined the city street department in patching up potholes.
Mayor Nick Phillips and 2nd Ward Councilman Bryan Tedesco assisted Street Supervisor Gary Bednarik and street-department employees Troy McIntosh and Michael Bednarik on Thursday, as they applied hot patch to some of Campbell’s most- pockmarked roads.
Phillips said he wanted to lend a hand because he feels the street department is understaffed at five employees. Two of those employees will retire within six months, Phillips noted. The mayor added he believes city council will need to vote to create positions for additional employees.
“I’m a hands-on mayor,” Phillips said. “As I told my assistant, if I [don’t] have meetings, I’m going to be out here with the guys the next few weeks.”
Mary Zetts, a Regent Street resident, called out to Phillips when she saw him working on her street.
“Never have I seen a mayor out here fixing roads like this,” Zetts said.
As is typical this time of year, the street department will spend the next several weeks patching potholes throughout the city.
