NILES

Gilbert E. Skeins Jr., 21, of Maple Street and Warren Avenue is in the Trumbull County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond, accused of raping a young girl.

Skeins was arraigned on the charge Thursday in Niles Municipal Court.

Niles police said they were contacted by a relative of the victim in February, saying the child had been victimized while the relative was at the store.

No plea was required at Skeins’ hearing. He returns for a preliminary hearing at 9:30 a.m. April 25.

Resurfacing project

LISBON

Work is set to begin Monday to resurface multiple routes in Columbiana County.

U.S. Route 62, and state Routes 45 and 14T – the Salem Bypass – will be resurfaced from 1 mile east of Ellsworth Avenue and the Route 45 ramps.

Route 14T will be resurfaced from the ramps at Route 62 and Route 45 to the Columbiana/Mahoning County line, and Route 45 will be resurfaced from Route 62 to the Columbiana/Mahoning County line at Ellsworth Ave.

Additionally, nearly 3 miles of Route 45 will be resurfaced from north of Lisbon to south of Teegarden and state Route 558.

Traffic will be maintained.

ODOT’s contractor for the $1.86 million project is The Shelly Co., from Thornville, Ohio, and the completion date is Aug. 31.

Girard meetings

GIRARD

The Trumbull County Planning Commission will host a public meeting for input on the city of Girard’s comprehensive plan at 7 p.m. Thursday in council chambers, 100 N. Market St. There will be a 6 p.m. citywide block-watch meeting, also in council chambers, immediately before the planning commission meeting.

Additionally, the city is seeking volunteers for cleanup of U.S. Route 422. Volunteers will meet at 8:30 a.m. April 30 at Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave., Youngstown.

Assault charges

BOARDMAN

A township woman is charged with felonious assault and domestic violence after being accused of hitting her husband with her car.

Charged is Amber Tanner, 26, of Cook Avenue.

Township police responded to an Irma Avenue address about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to a police report, where the purported victim reported that Tanner struck him with her vehicle after an argument that occurred while they were exchanging custody of their child.

The victim reported being struck on his right hip, thigh and hand, but he declined medical attention, according to the report.
