Portions of roads in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties would be named in memory of fallen military men, under legislation finalized by the Ohio Senate.

Senators unanimously concurred earlier this week on SB 182, which included more than two dozen road designations, after a comparable vote in the Ohio House in February, before lawmakers recessed for the month of March.

The legislation awaits Gov. John Kasich’s expected signature.

Among the memorials was language designating state Route 7 between West/East Western Reserve Road and U.S. Route 224 in Mahoning County as the Army Chief Warrant Officer Donald V. Clark Memorial Highway. Clark was killed in a helicopter crash in Iraq in late 2008.

Additionally, a section of state Route 7 from Wellsville to East Liverpool in Columbiana County would be designated as the Corporal William F. Bratt Memorial Highway. Bratt served in the Army and was a prisoner of war during World War II.

And state Route 82 from Vienna Township to U.S. Route 62 in Brookfield Township in Trumbull County would be designated as the Lance Corporal Stanley J. Sliwinsky Memorial Highway. Sliwinsky died in October 1983 in the bombing of Marine barracks in Beirut, Lebanon.

SB 182 also included language naming roads in honor of astronaut and Ohio native Neil Armstrong and former Gov. George Voinovich.
