STRUTHERS

A judge sentenced a Struthers woman to a year’s probation for child endangering.

Renee Heydle, 53, pleaded no contest to a reduced misdemeanor charge Monday when she appeared in Struthers Municipal Court. She originally was charged with felony child endangering after her arrest March 4.

The judge also sentenced Heydle to 180 days in jail but suspended that sentence.

Police entered Heydle’s Creed Street home Feb. 26. A police report says officers on patrol saw an open door to the home and became concerned there could have been a burglary. A juvenile resident gave police permission to search her home, the report states.

Upon entering the home, officers found what they described as deplorable conditions involving expired food, piled-up garbage and no running water. City officials condemned the house soon thereafter.

Police reported that a 16-year-old girl had been living in Heydle’s home but recently had moved in with her aunt due to the lack of food, heat or water in Heydle’s home.
