A man was shot Sunday on the East Side, and another man was run over by his pregnant girlfriend Friday evening on the South Side.
Reports said a 56-year-old man was arrested about 5:55 p.m. Sunday at a Boardman apartment building after his son was shot in the leg at a home earlier in the day in the 3000 block of McGuffey Road. Abdul Fareed is in the Mahoning County jail on a charge of felonious assault.
The victim was arguing with Fareed because Fareed yelled at the victim’s younger brother, 3. The victim was in the driveway and walked toward Fareed, who pulled a pistol from his vehicle as a third person tried to push the victim out of the way.
Reports said the victim ran but fell on the drive, then heard a shot and was wounded in the leg.
Fareed then drove away in his vehicle with the 3-year-old and another child, who is 5, reports said.
The vehicle was found in the 7000 block of West Boulevard. Fareed was taken into custody there. A man who lives at that address refused a police request to search his home for a firearm. No gun was found in Fareed’s vehicle.
The victim is being treated at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. Judge Elizabeth Kobly set Fareed’s bond at $50,000 after he was arraigned Monday in municipal court. He was ordered to have no contact with the victim.
Reports said a woman ran over her boyfriend Friday night, breaking the man’s leg, knee and pelvis, after they argued about the man being out all night.
Reports said officers were called about 11:45 p.m. to the 800 block of Cameron Avenue, where they found a man lying on a porch moaning in pain.
The victim told police he was on the porch of his mother’s home when his girlfriend stopped her car in the middle of the street and began yelling at him because although she’s pregnant, he was still out all night. The woman threatened to spray him with chemical spray before she got back in her car and ran him over. The man did not want to file a complaint because she’s carrying his child, reports said.
