Valley’s March sales up over last year

New- and used-auto sales in the Mahoning Valley were up slightly in March 2016 over March 2015.

A total of 5,329 sales were made in March, up from 5,153 reported last March, for a 3 percent increase.

The data, which come from auto titles processed by county title departments by the final business day each month, recently were released by the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers Association.

For the year so far, sales are up 3 percent from last year. There have been 13,450 new and used sales in the Valley so far this year, compared with 13,020 new and used sales made at this point last year.

Just new sales went from 2,835 in March 2015 up to 2,931 in March 2016. For the year, new sales are at 7,577, up from 6,966 sales at this time last year.

Used sales also were up in March. There were 2,338 used-vehicle sales, up from 2,263 sales reported last March.

For the year, used sales are down by 213 so far.

The top three dealerships for new and used sales were: Greenwood Chevrolet in Austintown with 352 sales; Sweeney Chevrolet of Boardman with 294; and Taylor Kia of Boardman with 236.

The top three new models in March were: the Chevrolet Equinox with 224 sales; the Chevrolet Silverado with 201; and the Lordstown-built Chevrolet Cruze with 164 sales.

The top three used models in March were: the Cruze with 114 sales; the Chevrolet Malibu with 66; and the Ford F-150 with 66 sales.
