50 car dealers meet in Lordstown, drive off with new Chevy Cruzes

LORDSTOWN — About 50 Lordstown-built Chevrolet Cruzes were driven away from their birthplace to their respective dealerships today.

Dealers from the Pittsburgh region were in town to pick up their new siren-red Cruzes.

The dealers also got to experience a tour of the plant where about 4,500 work and see how the new, next-generation Cruze compares to the compact car competition.

"We had to make a car that looks killer," said David Poniatowski, product manager for General Motors.

The Lordstown General Motors Assembly Plant has been home to the Cruze since 2010. Since then, more than 1.5 million Cruzes have been built there.

Production on the next-generation Cruze was launched this year for its spring dealership debut.
